Me & Martha Current Press Release Info Pack <word file>
Me & Martha play American Rural Roots Music which for Me & Martha usually includes: American fiddle tradition, blues, old-time string band, sea shanties and work songs, old-time-country, bluegrass, and contemporary folk ballads. But the joy to our music is our love of the art of music making. In each performance, we take a musical journey to some of our favorite songs. We pick songs that tell about the many untold stories of life. Some songs are peppy and happy while others tell of human weakness and tragedy. The selections and simple arrangements of our material compel the audience to become absorbed in the music as each story unfolds. Me & Martha provide a glimpse into the world of the music makers.

The objectives of this research includes gaining a greater understanding of the social and personal benefits derived from individuals coming together to make music regardless of age. The research will use existing human development theories and anecdotal evidence from musicians, their family, and teachers to demonstrate the long-term social and personal benefits of music making. Additionally, beyond the immediate individual impact in socio/psycho development, this paper will examine the long-term community benefits as well. The music styles used for this study would be considered part of the traditional American bluegrass, old-time country and folk music.

A note from Martha Hills & Don DePoy
As some of you might know by now, Don was recruited to be a “guest professor” in the Sociology Department at Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, Virginia (near Harrisonburg) for the next academic year (August 2007-May 2008). After careful consideration we have decided to take the position and go to Virginia for the 9-month appointment. Being back in the Shenandoah Valley will give Don an opportunity to re-connect with his parents and other relatives. We will also have great occasion to continue our music making. Being in Virginia will afford us an opportunity to visit and experience a wealth of history and local culture. Martha is eager to be in “horse country” and explore opportunities to work at one of the zillion near-by stables. We expect to have ViVA in the Chesapeake by mid-august (2007) <more here> and next spring/summer we may opt to sail the bay for a while and then head back to Belfast. We want all of you to come visit us in our new home. Our plan is to return to Belfast over Thanksgiving, winter holidays, Spring break and any other time we can back up to Maine. We are surely going to miss our family, dear friends and all we love about Maine. Yes, we are keeping our Maine residence and apartment building... We have rented our apartment and expect to be in Virginia to find accommodations the week of June 18th and be relocated by August 20th.
Details will follow as we sort through the process... With our warmest thoughts and love = Martha and Don
